About Anki Chrome
Anki Chrome is a browser extension that allows users to create flashcards directly from their browser.
Data Collection
By default, Anki Chrome does not collect, store, or transmit any user data. The extension operates entirely locally on your device, and all flashcards you create remain on your device.
AI Card Generation (Optional)
Anki Chrome includes an optional AI-powered card generation feature that requires you to provide your own OpenAI API key. This feature is completely opt-in.
What data is shared when you use AI generation:
- The text you highlight on web pages is sent to OpenAI's servers for processing
- No other data (browsing history, personal information, etc.) is transmitted
- All API calls to OpenAI use HTTPS encryption for secure transmission
Data storage:
- Your OpenAI API key is stored securely using Chrome's encrypted storage system
- We do not store the text you send to OpenAI or the cards it generates (except locally in your browser and in Anki)
- You can delete your API key at any time to stop using AI features
Third-Party Services
Analytics and Tracking: This extension does not use any analytics, tracking, or data collection services.
AI Features (Optional): When you choose to use the AI card generation feature with your own OpenAI API key, the text you highlight is processed by OpenAI's servers. OpenAI's privacy policy applies to this data processing. You can review OpenAI's privacy policy at: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
